Summit, Think
Tank and Lyceum Overview, Description and Objectives:
The purpose of this intensive Nursing Summit 2000, Think
Tank and Lyceum is to challenge nurses to excellence and distinction for maximal
functioning, contributions, and professional success. You should exit the Summit with the
knowledge, skills, and abilities to enhance your nursing practice in a variety of settings
and roles. By the end of day one of the Summit you should be able to: 1. Describe nursing
trends, issues and realities for this millennium, 2. Discuss three critical work tactics
learned in two different concurrent session summits specific to the world wide web,
clinical parameters of care, image enhancement, accreditation licensure, entrepreneurship
and/or steps to nursing success, 3. Analyze what nurses should start doing in a think tank
format, 4. Relate 3 strategies for speaking and presenting like a pro and 5. Share 5
focuses for nursing and nurses in the new millennium for maximal success. By the end of
day two, you should be able to: 1. Discuss what nurses should stop doing as proposed by
several nurse leaders, 2. Discuss three work approaches/techniques gleaned in two
concurrent sessions specific to medical-legal liability, work force enhancement, creative
leadership and followership, documentation, ethics, diversity, conflict resolution, and/or
improved team productivity, 3. Examine with a leadership panel what nurses should continue
to do, and 4. Discuss basic strategies for being successful in nursing. This Summit,
Lyceum and Think Tank is designed for nurses working across the healthcare spectrum
(hospital, associations, home health, nursing home, schools, universities, etc.) A deep
focus on nursing quality, professionalism, and realities is an ongoing theme.
Teaching methods will include
lecture-discussion, small group think tank, summit discussions, panels, and/or audiovisual
instruction.

Speaker, consultant, author, legal nurse expert and survival strategist.
Dr. Bob Couch - is a nationally known author,
motivator and professional speaker. Author of Can Do Thoughts In A Cant Do World
Volumes I and II. Dr. Couch brings humor to the complex world of work.
Debbi Byrd, LMSW-ACP,
LPC, LCDC, CADAC - Former Director of Social Services, presentor of numerous programs
statewide, Director of South Texas Training Systems, a psychotherapist with a private
caseload; Director Senior Care Unit, Methodist Hospital.
Joyce Binegar, RN, MN
- former faculty member in four nursing programs in Texas, has held roles as patient
advocate, speaker, case manager, director of nursing and consultant, author of several
educational materials.
Clarice Jenkins, RN, MN - is a professional nurse
with an extensive leadership and clinical background spanning over 20 years. She has held
a variety of leadership and clinical staff roles. She brings a practical and seasoned
